Logo Use Guidelines
Aug. 9th, 2022 08:01 pmRegarding Logo Use
The material collection sold on 02/09/2020 had all the organization’s in-game logos. So, accompanying that, we’ve published guidelines for usage of those logos below.
Prohibited Uses:
Copying the logos as-is or passing them off as your own.
This even extends to the logos in the book that aren’t from CoE itself or from SharkTale Factory. (Like the Empyrean Research Institute or Tranzykid Institute logos) Naturally, using those for merch or accepting money for those is prohibited.
Uses Allowed With Conditions:
You can incorporate the logos into your pictures or comics. (However, this is only if you use your own font and only imitate the logo, not directly copy.)
For example, you can use them as part of the background for a scene, a motif on a character’s clothes or belongings, et cetera. As long as this isn’t the main focus of the image or the comic, that kind of use in images that appear in anthologies and zines is permitted.
However, this only applies to comics and images. This is prohibited for physical merch. Since “Cell of Empireo” and “SharkTale Factory” don’t have actual logos designed, if you type them out in a bold Mincho font, you can make something similar to them. That said, please pay attention to the licensing requirements of the fonts you’re using themselves, as there are many that prohibit business and non-print use.
Allowed Logos:
You can freely use any of your fanmade logos in your pictures, comics, merch, etc. However, please keep in mind that if anything happens, SharkTale Factory will not be held responsible, so make sure you check the licensing requirements of the fonts you’re using.
Regarding Accessories:
All fanmade accessories or accessories that use the logos in-game are completely banned.
Here’s where the lines are.
Things that can lead to the game being mistaken for other things.
Things that can be mistaken as general purpose merch.
These are banned. Because accessories, straps, and keychains that are non-acrylic often fall in these categories, this is why they’re banned altogether.
(To break it down even further, even if people who are familiar with the series see an accessory and go “Oh, it’s Atou!” if there’s another character that has blond hair and red eyes, or uses plants as a weapon, they might go “oh, it’s that character” instead. Or someone might just think “oh, nice design” and have no idea about the series that they’re from. That’s why I’ve asked people to indicate that their fanwork is from a series called CoE, and why I’ve banned these. Thank you for your understanding.)
So, basically, accessories for individual use (i.e personal use or for a cosplay) and acrylic keychains and charms for non-profit distribution.
These are fine.
After you’ve read through the guidelines, feel free to make fanwork that follows those guidelines as much as you’d like.
